L’Enfant Prodigue (The Prodigal Son)

GLOW Lyric Theatre presents L’Enfant Prodigue (The Prodigal Son), a lesser-known opera (or “scène lyrique”) by Impressionist composer Claude Debussy, written during his time at the Paris Conservatory in 1884. For this work Debussy won the prestigious Prix-de-Rome award for composition that helped launch his international career. The opera follows the familiar biblical story of “The Prodigal Son” and features tenor Grant Knox as Azaël, the Prodigal Son; soprano Candace Dickinson as Lia, his mother; and baritone Christian Elser as Siméon, his father. The production will be sung in French with projected English supertitles. It is directed by Jenna Tamisiea. Performed at the Younts Center for Performing Arts (formerly the Fountain Inn Center for Visual & Performing Arts), May 29th through 31st.
