John Fowler: The History of Roots & Ethnic Music in South Carolina
The Horry County Museum and the AVX Foundation present musician John Fowler, who will share the history of roots and ethnic music in South Carolina. Using an interactive timeline with musical presentations, Fowler connects the dots, linking music heritage relative to region, ethnicity, religion and culture. The presentation is an overview of parallels between European, Native American and African influences, which played an important role in shaping American music forms and styles, from field hollers and chants to blues and gospel.
