The Flowertown Players in Summerville present Jazz Meets the Beatles July 27-28. In March 1957, sixteen year old John Lennon formed a band, The Quarry Men, with several friends. By 1958, Paul McCartney and George Harrison were playing with the band. In 1960, the name changed to “Beetals” as a tribute to Buddy Holly and the Crickets. By August 1960, they were playing as the Beatles, and in 1962, Ringo Starr joined the band. By April 1964, the Beatles held 12 positions on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, including the top five. Ten years, 236 original compositions, and one worldwide album.
