J. Grahame Long: Dueling in Charleston: Refined Violence in the Holy City

For two centuries, Charlestonians dueled habitually, settling personal grievances with malice instead of mediation. Charleston historian J. Grahame Long presents a charming portrait of this dreadfully civilized custom in his book, Dueling in Charleston: Violence Refined in the Holy City. Long will offer a lecture and book signing at the Horry County Museum’s McCown Auditorium in Conway January 28th at 1 p.m. The program is co-sponsored by the Horry County Historical Society. Free.
