Introduction to Portrait Drawing with Katelyn Chapman
Redux Contemporary Art Center in Charleston offers a six-week Introduction to Portrait Drawing class, led by Katelyn Chapman, Thursdays from 6:30-8:30pm, January 16th through February 20th. Beginning with the skull, moving through to the structure of the face and neck muscles, and then on to facial features, this class will be an in depth study of the human portrait through the process of drawing. Working from life, participants will explore gesture, structure, proportions, and anatomy of the portrait. This course will also focus on the expressive qualities of drawing by experimenting with different drawing approaches and mediums including pencil, charcoal, and pen. The class builds on foundational drawing courses and emphasizes the importance of drawing from observation.
