Hometown Teams: How Sports Shape America – in Slater
Hometown Teams: How Sports Shape America is a traveling Smithsonian exhibit that examines how sports represent our communities and embody the American spirit. Developed as part of the Museum on Main Street program of the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service, this exhibit is designed especially for small museums and rural audiences that lack regular access to traveling exhibitions. The Humanities CouncilSC brings Hometown Teams to South Carolina in 2015 for a year-long tour of six communities. Each host community will present collateral programming, from local exhibits to community tailgates to movie screenings and concerts. September 12 – October 25, Slater Hall Citizens’ Committee and Traveler’s Rest Historical Society presents the exhibit at Slater Hall Community Center, 5 Whitney Street. Hosted by The Humanities CouncilSC, Slater Hall Citizens’ Committee, & Traveler’s Rest Historical Society.
