Four Singers Walk Into a Bar – An Original Operatic Fantasy
What do you get when you mix music from operas and operettas by Mozart, Verdi, Gilbert and Sullivan, four singers on the prowl for their romantic leads, and alcoholic beverages? Answer: the original comic work Four Singers Walk Into a Bar. Soprano and librettist Maria Beery, tenor Michael Brown, mezzo Evelyn Clary, bass-baritone Abe Hardy and live accompanist Claudio Olivera (all USC School of Music alums) weave a tale of love lost and won. While the music is in Italian, French and Victorian English, be not dismayed – comic genius Andrew Skaggs will translate their songs into colloquial English. This operatic fantasy takes place at the Art Bar in Columbia December 13 at 6:30 p.m.
