“Fear Collecting Ritual: A Fool’s Journey,” A Traveling Project with Lucien Shapiro

Redux Contemporary Art Center presents “Fear Collecting Ritual: A Fool’s Journey,” A Traveling Project with Lucien Shapiro, April 14th in Charleston. Artist Shapiro travels to various regions, performing rituals that focus on the collecting and relinquishing of fear and the journey of finding self and light. This event is an interactive screening and performance. Shapiro will lead the audience through three “fear” rituals, performed by him while wearing the masks and utilizing the vessels he has created. The audience will be provided with slips of paper to write down their greatest fears, which Shapiro will collect in a performance of the ritual.

This event will also be a regional debut for two short films by Shaun Roberts, featuring Shapiro and his artwork. Additional masks, vessels, objects, and giclee and screen prints by Shapiro will also be on display. For a sense of the work featured at this event, four videos are available online.
