Fahamu Pecou – DO or DIE: Affect, Ritual, Resistance
The Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art in Charleston presents DO or DIE: Affect, Ritual, Resistance, a solo exhibition by Fahamu Pecou. Seeking to elevate and re-contextualize Black life and death, Pecou reframes our view through performance, painting, drawing and video. Using references from Yoruba/ Ifa ritual to cultural retentions of hip-hop to the philosophy of Négritude, Pecou shapes a story that seeks to affirm life via an understanding of the balance between life and death. The opening reception is August 26th from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., and the exhibition runs through October 8th. The reception and admission are free.
