Cultivate SciArt Happy Hour: Encaustic Techno Touch

CultivateSciArt hosts a series of Science + Art happy hours, where you can grab a bite and beverage for a session of art creation, a brief science presentation, and community conversations. The subject is Encaustic Techno Touch when local artist Marielena Martinez introduces participants to “Textures & Temperatures through Encaustic Art,” using rough textures of wood and sandpaper, hot wax and cool surfaces to create encaustic painting, creating original art to take home while learning more about all the information we gather through touch. No experience is required. Dr. David Parisi, Professor of Emerging Media at the College of Charleston, will lead “Transmitting Touch: New Frontiers of Haptic Holograms and Tactile Techno-Love,” a conversation about emerging technologies capable of transmitting touch. Signed copies of Parisi’s new book, Archaeologies of Touch, will be available. This Science + Art happy hour will take place February 25th, from 6 to 8pm at Rutledge Cab Company in Charleston. This is meant to be a fun, informal, community event for adults & youths. Drop-ins are welcome, but early ticket purchases are encouraged, to avoid lines and help organizers plan.
