Columbia Music of Art & Columbia Baroque: “Music for a Duchess”

Columbia Baroque performs “Music for a Duchess” as part of the Baker and Baker Series, August 8 at the Columbia Museum of Art. The afternoon program coordinates Baroque music with a newly exhibited painting of Louise De Keroualle, Duchess of Portsmouth, by Dutch artist Jan de Baen. Louise De Keroualle was one of the many mistresses of King Charles II of England. The program will focus on late 17th and early 18th century England, France and the Dutch Republic featuring music by Handel, Purcell, Marais and others. Performers are Columbia Baroque members: Brittnee Siemon, mezzo soprano; Jean Hein, recorder; Mary Hostetler Hoyt, Baroque violin; Gail Ann Schroeder, viola da gamba; and Jerry Curry, harpsichord; with Peter Hoyt, Columbia Museum of Art, Curator of Music.
