Columbia Baroque Concert Series: Splendors of the Baroque, Improvvisato!
Guest artist Hazel Ketchum returns to Columbia Baroque for Splendors of the Baroque, Improvvisato! May 14 at the USC School of Music Recital Hall. This extravaganza concert features music by Vivaldi, Scarlatti, Schmelzer, and others. The program includes a recently discovered Telemann Fantasia for solo gamba in which Gail Ann Schroeder is featured. Improvvisato! refers to Italian-style ornamentation where performers improvise flourishes and embellishments that add beauty and personal expression to the music. Performers are Hazel Ketchum, lute and soprano; Gail Ann Schroeder, viola da gamba; Brittnee Siemon, mezzo soprano; Jean Hein, Baroque recorders; Erika Cutler, Baroque violin; Mary Hostetler Hoyt, Baroque violin; and Jerry Curry, harpsichord. Concert Conversations with Peter A. Hoyt begin at 7 p.m., followed by the performance at 7:30 p.m.
