College of Charleston Faculty Lecture Series: Dr. H. Gibbs Knotts
The College of Charleston presents a lecture by Dr. H. Gibbs Knotts April 5 at noon in the Addlestone Librray. Dr. Knotts will discuss his new book, The Resilience of Southern Identity: Why the South Still Matters in the Minds of its People. The South is changing. People are moving to the region at a very high rate. Urbanization and suburbanization are occurring, particularly here in the Lowcountry. In addition, one of the most powerful symbols of the Old South, the Confederate battle flag, was removed from the South Carolina statehouse grounds on July 10, 2015. Given these changes, it is logical to conclude that Southern identity would be decreasing as well. However, the connection to the South remains strong. Free.
