Candlelight Concert at the Unitarian Church
Ann Caldwell and the Magnolia Singers close out the Candlelight Concert season at the Unitarian Church in Charleston April 5 with a rousing performance of a cappella Gullah spirituals and stories that pay homage to their ancestors. Their music ranges from spirituals to R & B, jazz, gospel, folk, and children’s songs, and their enthusiastic call and response style will have the audience singing, clapping, stomping, and dancing. The Magnolia Singers were commissioned to sing backup vocals for Angie Grenadier’s original composition, Southern Strong, a tribute to the Emmanuel Nine, and they have performed on the Today show and Good Morning America. A reception follows the concert with an art gallery opening featuring works by Amy Major.
