Bhangra Dance Workshop and Performance
Bhangra is a traditional form of dance and music which originates from the Punjab region of India. In its purest form Bhangra is a mix of a singing accompanied by music and the beat of a drum known as a dhol. Today Bhangra dance is performed all over the world; including Bollywood films, hip-hop music, movie soundtracks, college competitions, talent shows and fitness classes. CMU Bhangra is a dance team that performs at various competitions and events throughout North America. Their purpose is to encourage, advance, and promote the art of Indian Punjabi Bhangra dancing. The team seeks to promote the art of this dance through various performances and competitions, on campus and around the world, and through instructive workshops. They will give a workshop and performance March 19 at the Felix C. Davis Community Center in North Charleston.
