Bela Fleck’s Banjo Documentary: Throw Down Your Heart
The Greenville Library presents the Bela Fleck Banjo Documentary Throw Down Your Heart, January 29 at 6:00 pm at the Hughes Main Library. The event includes a screening and discussion on the 2008 film, which was funded solely by sixteen-time Grammy winner Bela Fleck. The documentary connects the rich cultural origins of the banjo in Africa and the Caribbean to the U.S. Appalachian region, tracing its evolution as an instrument with a pivotal role in the forefront of one of America’s unique musical genres, bluegrass. Presented in partnership with the Carolina Music Museum and the Spartanburg Philharmonic. The event is free, but registration is required.
