Bach & Luther: Celebrating the 500th Anniversary of the German Reformation
S.C. Bach, South Carolina’s Bach Society, presents the South Carolina Bach Choir and five local organists in a presentation of portions of Bach’s organ Clavierübung III. Taken in its entirety, this collection includes settings of Luther’s hymns for the Kyrie and Gloria (the Lutheran Mass), the Ten Commandments, the Nicene Creed, Lord’s Prayer, Baptism, Confession, and Holy Communion. The organ chorales are bookmarked by Bach’s monumental Prelude and Fugue in E-flat Major. Furman University organist Dr. Charles Tompkins will begin and end the program with the Prelude and Fugue on the Fisk pipe organ in Daniel Chapel. The concert will be at Furman University October 26 at 7:30 p.m., with a pre-concert talk by Dr. David Rhyne at 7 p.m. Tickets $5 – $20.
