Author Dr. David Shields Speaks at Gardening Symposium
Dr. David Shields is author of Southern Provisions: The Creation and Revival of a Cuisine. He will give a talk on “The Revival of The Carolina’s Greatest Fruits and Berries” as the keynote address for Historic Columbia’s 2016 Gardening Symposium, April 8. Dr. Shields is also a Carolina Distinguished professor, chairperson of Slow Food’s Ark of Taste Biodiversity Committee for the Southern Region, and Chair of the Carolina Gold Rice Foundation. For centuries, the South has been known for its amazing gardens. Increasingly unpredictable climactic conditions, however, are presenting new challenges for the Southern gardener. Participants in the symposium, which continues April 9th, will look to our storied horticultural past, for insight on ways to move the Southern garden into the future.
