Artist Talk | Nancy Friedemann-Sánchez

Join the Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art at the College of Charleston on Tuesday, May 17 at 7 p.m. for an artist talk featuring Nancy Friedemann-Sánchez, in conversation with scholar and College of Charleston Hispanic Studies faculty Dr. Christina García, on the occasion of Friedemann-Sánchez’s exhibition “Pinturas de Casta and the Construction of American Identity” at the Halsey Institute. Friedemann-Sánchez’s paintings reference casta painting, a genre popularized in 18th-century Spanish Colonial Central and South America that purported to depict a racial and social taxonomy of children born of racially mixed couplings.
