Artist Talk for The Image Hunter
The Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art presents an artist talk August 25 with the Italian artist Hitnes as he discusses his exhibition and project The Image Hunter: On the Trail of John James Audubon. Audubon spent the early decades of the 19th century tracking birds and drawing them with the goal of creating a compendium of all of the birds in the U.S. Nearly 200 years later, Hitnes embarked on a 20-city road trip to retrace and rediscover the America that Audubon traversed in the making of his opus, The Birds of America. Traveling along Audubon’s exploratory routes, Hitnes sketched and painted what he saw, creating an updated visual documentation of the birds Audubon painted. Free.
