A Part Equal

Converse College presents A Part Equal, a new play by Derek Davidson November 15 – 18. Everyone knows who William Shakespeare was, but how many know Judith Quiney? Or Margaret Hughes, or Nancy Hallam, or Edwina Booth Grossman? That Shakespeare wrote some of the greatest female roles in theatrical history is not to be doubted, but what about the untold numbers of women—mother, daughters, countless actors, writers, artists—who were instrumental in the creation of his character? Who helped forge his personality, advance his reputation, secure his place at the pinnacle of human artistic achievement? A Part Equal allows a few of these women to speak on their own behalf, either in imagined scenes, or voicing the actual words of some extraordinary individuals spanning the last four centuries, as have been preserved in letters, diaries, memoirs. Admission $10.
