2015 South Carolina Arts Awards Concert

The South Carolina Arts Foundation honors this year’s recipients of the South Carolina Arts Awards – the Elizabeth O’Neill Verner Governor’s Awards for the Artsthe Jean Laney Harris Folk Heritage Awards, and the McNair Award – May 13th during a 6:15 concert, at Southside Baptist Church, 702 Whaley Street, in Columbia. The concert is open to the public.

The Elizabeth O’Neill Verner Governor’s Awards for the Arts are the state’s highest recognition for outstanding achievement and contributions to the arts in South Carolina. This year’s recipients are: Aldwyth, Dr. Donald Portnoy, Howe Hall Arts Infused Magnet School, Wells Fargo Bank, The City of Lancaster, College of Charleston School of the Arts, and Dr. Terry K. Peterson.

The Jean Laney Harris Folk Heritage Awards recognize lifetime achievement in the folk arts. The 2015 award recipients are The James Brothers (Gospel Music) and Betty McDaniel (Advocacy – Southern Appalachian Culture).

The McNair Award is presented in some years to honor outstanding leaders building on the legacy of the late Gov. Robert McNair. This year’s recipient is Senator Robert Wesley “Wes” Hayes.

Following the Arts Awards concert, the South Carolina Arts Foundation invites you to the South Carolina Arts Gala, across the street at 701 Whaley. The gala will include an art sale featuring works by South Carolina artists, food, and more. Tickets to the gala are $75 per person, and proceeds benefit the education and arts development programs of the South Carolina Arts Commission.
