The Talking Cure at Redux Contemporary Art Center
Redux Contemporary Art Center presents “The Talking Cure,” on view May 20th through August 6th in Charleston. The name is taken from Sigmund Freud’s original description of psychoanalysis, which informed visual artist Melissa Stern of New York City in her creation of this multimedia exhibition that incorporates the work of 24 writers, musicians, and actors with their own interpretations of her sculptures exhibited simultaneously. Visitors to the exhibition, a part of the Piccolo Spoleto Festival, will be able to interact with the sculptures, text, and recordings through technology utilizing the Cloud. Stern is an accomplished artist, educator, and writer. She will give a free artist talk May 21 at 2pm. A free opening day reception for the artist will be held from 6 – 8pm.
