Puppetry Workshop – Yamasong: Working with Paperclay

Filmmaker and artist Sam Koji Hale leads a Puppetry Workshop, in partnership with IBEX Puppetry, as part of The Underexposed Film Festival yc. The workshop will focus on Paperclay, Sam’s choice in puppet-making material. Using puppets from his films, including the award-winning Yamasong, he will teach participants how to sculpt puppet heads for characters around 18-20″ tall, and how to combine Paperclay with other materials, like papier-mache. The workshop also features behind-the-scenes footage and a slideshow on how he created Yamasong. The workshop takes place March 28th from 10am to noon at the Gettys Art Center in Rock Hill. Maximum enrollment is 20, so advance tickets are required; sales end at 7 PM March 27th.
