Gee’s Bend Exhibition
Created by a group of women from the isolated African-American community of Gee’s Bend (now known as Boykin), Alabama, the nationally acclaimed Gee’s bend quilts have taken the museum world by storm. Back for a second visit to the Myrtle Beach Art Museum, the quilts, alongside their counterparts in print, will be exhibited in a new light. From Quilts to Prints will focus on a series of fine art etchings designed by four of the Gee’s Bend quilt makers and produced in collaboration with Paulson Bott Press in Berkeley, CA. Seen side by side with some of the famous quilts of Gee’s bend, these prints open up new conversations about the translation of ideas between one artistic medium to another. Exhibition on view December 8th – April 23rd. Free admission.
