College of Charleston International Piano Series
College of Charleston’s International Piano Series presents Irish pianist Barry Douglas March 13 at the Sottile Theatre. Douglas is the winner of the Silver Medal at the 1985 Van Cleburne International Piano Competition and of the First Prize at the 1986 Tchaikovsky International Piano Competition. He was awarded the “Order of the British Empire” in 2002 for services to music. He has been widely recorded on the Chandos label and is currently recording the complete piano works of Brahms. He serves as Artistic Director of Camerata Ireland and of the Clandeboye Festival. As stated by The Guardian: “Amid the compulsive hyping that affects classical music, Barry Douglas remains defiantly and admirably grounded… Douglas’s powerful playing always compels and rewards attention.” Tickets $20; free for College of Charleston employees and students.
