Celebrating Courage & Charting the Future: 50 Years of Black Women at Converse College Exhibition
Celebrating Courage & Charting the Future: 50 Years of Black Women at Converse College will be on display February 7 – 21. In the fall of 1968, two local African American women, Freida Rogers Byrd and Margaret Jones Swindler, registered as day students at Converse College. They graduated in the spring of 1972 with degrees in Biology and Sociology. This exhibition recognizes the 50th anniversary of integration at Converse College and the first African American students who joined Converse’s sisterhood. The exhibit is created by students in HST 306/506: African American History, and features old photographs, yearbooks, and oral history interviews with alumnae, and more.
