Carey Morton – Harbinger
Redux Contemporary Art Center presents Carey Morton’s exhibition Harbinger January 5 – February 10. Through an intuitive exploration of found objects rooted in the American South, Morton’s work becomes an anthropologic study of culture and the inherent qualities to be gleaned from these often overlooked materials. This process, combined with research and inspiration taken from Myth and Archetype, lead to a reinterpretation of ancient ideas and their relevance in modern society. Throughout history there has been a deep human connection to the earth and an awareness of our role within the environment that contemporary culture often ignores. This work acknowledges both tangible and intangible attributes of human dependence on nature and visceral experience. Opening reception: January 5, 6-8 p.m. Artist talk: January 22, 6 p.m. Free.
